This is a great article that discusses the general health benefits of froyo over ice cream and how many fro yo chains are continuing to expand! Red Mango alone is planning to open 550 more locations in the next 5 years. Other companies are focusing on international markets and opening stores in Asia, Central and South America. Though many Americans are obese the article claims there is now a mindset to eat healthier which leads many to choose froyo as a dessert or snack. The great news is Froyo is here to stay!

Frozen Yogurt, or as we like to call it, "The probiotic ambrosia of the gods," is the very sustenance we at the Fine Art of Froyo live by. And here at F.A.F.Y. we aren't just critiquing creamy delicatessens; we scrutinize the diverse and inventive toppings, explore the unique ambiance of every store, and report on their froyo economics. In short we aren't simply in search of frozen yogurt, but the much more elusive "YogArt".

Pinkberry- Union Square San Francisco
170 O Farrell St San Francisco, CA 94102
Hours: Sun-Thurs 10am-9pm
Fri-Sat 10am-11pm
Phone: (415) 391-1529
While in San Francisco I was looking for a fro yo place and happened upon a Pinkberry. This location didn't have my favorite, pomegranate so I went with the original with mango, kiwi, dark chocolate balls and pirouette cookies. Though most Pinkberries offer similar yogurts and toppings this location had some unusual selections (see more under toppings).
Ratings (1-7 swirls)

Quality:

As always Pinkberry offers premium yogurt, and this location did not disappoint.
Variety:

Pinkberry Union Square only offered 4 flavors at a time, which is even less than some of the other locations.
Variety of Toppings:

Pinkberry offers a larger variety of toppings at all their locations, but this one had a few toppings I don't usually see. There was vanilla guava nectar and mint sauces! I wasn't brave enough to try them, but if someone does please feel free to let me know how it tastes!
Ambiance:

This is a very small store and was absolutely packed while I was there. It needs to be expanded to accommodate its busy location. The only plus was that there are a few outdoor tables and I was able to snag one.

Yoppi Yogurt- Financial District
101 California St. San Francisco, CA 94111
Hours: Mon- Fri 10am-6pm
Sat-Sun Closed

I was visiting San Francisco recently and wanted to try out a new fro yo place that was mainly in California. Yoppi Yogurt is only in Cali and parts of Asia. The location I went to is in the financial district and is closed on the weekends, so plan your visit accordingly. It is self serve and offers 6 flavors at a time. One unique aspect is that the customers get to vote for the new flavor for the following month! After sampling a few flavors I decided on strawberry tart with kiwi, banana, mango, honey and peanut m&ms.

Quality:

The yogurt was really good quality but melted quickly even though I ate mine in the store.
Variety:

There are only 6 flavors offered at a time, but I really liked the fact that customers can vote for the flavor they want for the next month.
Variety of toppings:

At Yoppi Yogurt they offer the usual fruit, candies and cereal. The fruit is better than I am used to probably because the fruit is fresher in California. They also offer regular and peanut M&Ms which I enjoyed.
Ambiance:

The store was clean and modern, but very small with little seating. There are only about 4 places to sit and no outside options so I had to wait for a place to sit down.
